What is a dessert jar candle?

Is it edible?
No. Nothing in it is food, whatever the fragrance is named after. Keep it away from children and pets for that reason as much as for the flame.
Why has my candle tunnelled down the middle?
The first burn was too short. Let the first burn run until the melted wax pool reaches the edge of the container, or the candle will keep burning down the same narrow channel and leave wax up the sides.
How short should the wick be?
About five millimetres, before every light. A long wick gives a big flickering flame, soot on the glass and a faster burn.
How long can I burn it at a time?
As a general rule for a container candle, no more than about four hours at a stretch, and stop when roughly a centimetre of wax is left. Any burn instructions printed on the candle itself take priority.
Is it safe to leave burning?
No. Never leave a burning candle unattended, keep it away from children, pets, curtains and anything else that can catch, burn it on a stable heat-resistant surface, and put it out before you leave the room or go to sleep. The container gets genuinely hot — move it only once the wax has set.
