Inside Easy Grocery on McLeod Road — what is on the shelves, what to buy first, and how the pack sizes work.
Easy Grocery is an Indian and South Asian grocery in Te Atatū South, listed on DoorToShop with several hundred lines. It is the kind of shop where the flour comes in 10 and 20 kilo bags, the spices come whole as well as ground, and the mustard oil is on the shelf rather than a special order.
You can order the whole shop online and have it couriered, which is the practical difference from driving across town for a bag of atta. This page covers what is stocked, what is worth buying first, and the one bit of arithmetic that matters when everything comes in three sizes.

What They Stock
Atta and rice
Wholemeal atta in 10kg and 20kg bags alongside basmati and jasmine rice from 5kg up to 20kg. This is the part of the shop where the size you choose changes the price per kilo most, so it is worth a moment's arithmetic.
Dals and pulses
Chana, masoor, moong, toor and the rest, mostly in 800g and 1kg packs. Dry pulses keep for a long time in a sealed container, so this is the easiest part of the list to buy once and not think about again.
Whole and ground spices
Cumin, coriander and cardamom as whole seed, plus turmeric, chilli and blended masalas ground and ready. Whole spices hold their aroma longer than ground ones, which is why both are stocked in different sizes.
Ghee and cooking oils
Ghee by the kilo, and mustard, sunflower and other cooking oils in 500ml and 1L bottles. Mustard oil in particular is not something most supermarkets carry.
Tea, snacks and dairy
Loose and masala tea by the jar, namkeen and crisps, and chilled and ambient dairy including chaas, cream and milk drinks. The small end of the shop, and the part that changes most often.
Personal care and household
Toothpaste, soap, face wash, laundry liquid and cleaning products — the everyday non-food items, so a grocery order does not need a second trip somewhere else.
Two lines from this shop have their own guides: our guide to buying and cooking jasmine rice and our guide to dehydrated garlic flakes.
Where to Start
If you are stocking a kitchen for Indian cooking from scratch, this is the short list. Buy these first, and add for specific dishes afterwards rather than the other way round.
- A flour. Atta for roti and paratha. Sold in 10kg and 20kg bags, which sounds like a lot until you work out how often you would otherwise buy 1kg.
- A rice. Basmati for pilau and biryani, or jasmine if you cook more broadly across Asian food. Both are stocked in several sizes.
- Two dals. One that cooks fast and one that holds its shape — masoor and chana is the usual pair to start with.
- Four ground spices. Turmeric, chilli powder, coriander powder and a garam masala will get you through most everyday recipes.
- Two whole spices. Cumin and coriander seed. Both are used whole far more often than people expect, and they keep longer than ground.
- A fat and a salt. Ghee or a cooking oil, and salt. Mustard oil if you cook North Indian or Bengali food, sunflower if you want something neutral.
- Tea. Loose tea or a masala blend, depending on whether you want to add your own spices.
On sizes: almost everything here comes in more than one, and the bigger bag is usually cheaper per kilo — but only if you use it. Divide the price by the weight for each size and compare those two numbers rather than the shelf prices. The weight is in the product name, so it takes seconds. If you do buy a big bag, decant it into airtight containers and keep it cool, dry and out of the light; the sack it arrives in is packaging for transport, not long-term storage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Easy Grocery?
4/184 McLeod Road, Te Atatū South, Auckland 0610. You can order online for courier delivery rather than travelling to the shop — enter your postcode at checkout to confirm coverage for your address.
What does Easy Grocery sell?
Indian and South Asian groceries: atta and rice in household and bulk sizes, dals and pulses, whole and ground spices, ghee and cooking oils, tea, snacks, dairy, and a personal-care and household aisle. Several hundred lines in total.
Is it cheaper to buy the bigger bag?
Usually per kilo, but not always, and it only makes sense if you will use it. Divide the price by the weight for each size and compare the two numbers — the size is in the product name, so it takes a few seconds. A bag you throw half of away is not a saving.
How should I store a large bag of flour or rice?
Decant it into sealed, airtight containers rather than leaving it in the paper or woven sack, and keep it somewhere cool, dry and out of direct light. The sack is packaging for transport, not for six months in a warm cupboard.
What is the difference between whole and ground spices?
Whole seed keeps its aroma for much longer, because there is less surface exposed to air. Ground spice is quicker to use and is what most everyday recipes call for. Most people keep both — whole for tempering and grinding fresh, ground for convenience.
What should I buy first if I am new to cooking Indian food?
A flour, a rice, two dals, four ground spices — turmeric, chilli, coriander and a garam masala — two whole spices in cumin and coriander seed, a cooking fat, salt, and tea. That list will cover most everyday recipes before you start buying for specific dishes.
Can I order from this store and another store in the same order?
Yes. DoorToShop is a multi-merchant marketplace, so items from several local stores go into the same cart and the same checkout.
How fast is delivery?
Orders are dispatched by the store the next business day and typically arrive within 1 to 3 business days by courier. Enter your postcode at checkout to confirm delivery coverage for your address.
How much does delivery cost?
The base delivery fee is $5 NZD, with free delivery on orders above $69 — the exact amount is confirmed at checkout. There is no minimum order value.
What if something is missing or damaged?
Contact the store, and DoorToShop support if you need help reaching them. Returns are handled by the store that sold the item, and nothing in a store's policy limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
