Why is there chicory in the coffee?
Because South Indian coffee is made that way. Roasted chicory root is ground in with the coffee and changes the cup -- darker, heavier in the mouth, with a bitter-sweet note underneath. It is a deliberate part of the style rather than a substitute for coffee.
What does the coffee-to-chicory ratio on the pack mean?
It is the proportion of the two in the blend, written as something like 80:20 or 70:30 with coffee first. More chicory means a heavier, more bitter-sweet cup; less means the coffee comes through cleaner. It is the single most useful number on the label if you already know what you like.
Is this instant coffee or filter coffee powder?
The pack says which, and they are not interchangeable. An instant premix dissolves. A filter coffee powder is ground coffee meant for a South Indian filter and will not dissolve. Check the label before ordering if you have a particular one in mind.
What does 'Sweetened' on the pack mean?
