Looking After It

An arrangement in foam needs less handling than a bouquet but more attention to water than people expect:

1

Find a level spot out of the sun.

Away from a window that gets afternoon sun, and away from a heat pump or radiator. Heat dries the foam much faster than anything else.

2

Top up the water every day.

Pour slowly into the foam at the edge of the container until it stops absorbing. Foam dries from the top down, and once it has fully dried out it does not rewet properly.

3

Do not lift the flowers out to water it.

Water goes to the foam, not the flowers. Pulling stems out and putting them back tears the channels they are sitting in and shortens the whole thing.

4

Pinch out anything that has gone over.

Individual blooms finish at different times. Removing spent ones as you go keeps the arrangement looking deliberate rather than tired, and keeps the rest cleaner.

5

Keep it away from the fruit bowl.

Ripening fruit releases ethylene, which brings flowers on faster. It matters as much here as it does for a bouquet.

6

Do not move it around.

An arrangement is built to be seen from one side and to sit still. Repeated moving loosens stems in the foam.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a flower box and a bouquet?

A bouquet arrives hand-tied and wrapped, and needs trimming and a vase. A boxed arrangement arrives finished in its own container, usually set in floral foam, and goes straight onto a table with nothing to do. Arrangements suit offices, hospital rooms and anywhere the recipient would rather not be handed a job.

How do I water a flower box?

Pour water slowly into the foam at the edge of the container until it stops absorbing, and do it daily. Foam dries from the top down and does not rewet properly once it has fully dried out. Never lift the flowers out to water them — that tears the channels the stems sit in.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

Very close, not identical. The florist builds from what is good that week and substitutes like for like when a variety is unavailable. The style, palette and scale will match.

Is it heavy?

Heavier than a wrapped bouquet — the container, the foam and the water all add up. Worth knowing if it is going somewhere with stairs, or being carried any distance at the other end.

Can I add a card or a gift?

Yes. Gift cards, chocolates, soft toys and balloons from the same store can go in the same order.

What if it arrives damaged?

Photograph it as it arrived and contact the store the same day. Fresh flowers are time-sensitive, so an early message gives the store room to put it right. Returns are handled by the store that sold the item, and the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies.

How much is delivery, and is there a minimum order?

The base delivery fee is $5 NZD, with free delivery on orders above $69 in the Auckland region — the exact amount is confirmed at checkout. There is no minimum order value, and you can combine items from other local stores in the same cart.
