Frequently Asked Questions
Is it waterproof? Can it be used in the rain?
Treat it as decoration only. These are made to be looked at, not to keep water off, and the fabric, the trim and the frame are chosen for appearance. Nothing on this page says it will survive weather, and taking it outside in rain is how the decoration gets ruined.
What is it actually used for?
Filling space. Hung open and upside down from a ceiling, or stood open in a corner or behind a seat, it occupies volume that wall and table decoration leaves empty.
How many should I get?
Odd numbers at staggered heights -- three or five -- is the usual arrangement, because a group reads as a composition where a pair reads as a gap. One on its own works behind a seat as a frame.
How is one hung from a ceiling?
Open, and from the tip rather than the handle, so the decorated underside faces the room. That means a fixing point in the ceiling and a cord, and the weight is worth checking against what you are fixing into -- a hook meant for a paper lantern is not the same as one holding a framed umbrella.
How is it stored?
Closed, dry and standing up or lying straight, somewhere nothing will be stacked on it. The frame is the part that bends and a bent rib shows the moment it is opened. Damp is the other enemy, since trim and glue do not recover from it.
Is it safe to put this near lit diyas?
Treat it as you would any fabric or plastic decoration: keep a clear gap. Artificial flowers and decorative fabric are made of synthetic material and will burn, and festival decoration is exactly the situation where a garland ends up draped near an open flame because both went up the same doorway. Put lamps where nothing can fall or blow onto them, and use battery lights rather than flame where a decoration has to sit close. Any instruction supplied with the product takes precedence over this general advice.
What size is it, and what is it made of?
Both are on the product listing, which is where the seller states them and keeps them current. They are not repeated here, because sizes and materials change between batches and a figure written into an article goes stale without anyone noticing.
Will it look exactly like the photograph?
Close, but pieces like this are finished by hand and vary a little from one to the next in colour, in the depth of the finish and in small dimensions. If an exact shade or an exact size matters -- because it has to sit in a particular spot or match something you already own -- it is worth asking the store before ordering rather than after.
How is it packed for delivery?
Worth unpacking carefully and checking it over on arrival. Anything that has gone wrong in transit is the store's to put right, and the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies.
Does this page make any claim about what this will do for me?
No. It describes what the object is and how it is generally used, and points at the product listing for material, size and what is included. Objects of this kind appear in festival and household observance, and describing that use is not the same as promising a result. Nothing here is a statement about prosperity, luck, protection or any other outcome, and nothing is a claim about the material or how long a particular piece will last.
Can I order this with items from other stores?
Yes. DoorToShop lets you build one order across more than one local store, so this can go in the same basket as whatever else you are getting that day.
How much is delivery, and is there a minimum order?
Delivery is calculated at checkout, where the exact amount is confirmed. Free delivery applies above the threshold shown there, in the Auckland region only. There is no minimum order value, and you can combine items from other local stores in the same cart.
